This is a JDM GT-R that was imported. According to the notes on Cobb's blog, this run was made in 3rd gear due to it hitting the rev limiter in 4th. It was done on a Mustang dyno (which read lower than a dyno jet) and had a mix of 93 and 100 octane to simulate the octane that it was intended to use in Japan. Good stuff!

Nice. Cobb always gets stuff like this done early...

Hey Jeremy, correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that the octane levels here in the US match the octane levels in Japan. They use a different form of measurement in Japan therefore their number is higher but it's the same as 93 Octane here in the US. (some states however don't get 93 Octane, ie.- parts of California)

Japan's 100 octane is better than 93, more like 94 or 95 octane here, but, we don't serve them here. West Cost's crappy 91 octane really need to go if they are so cared about emission there

In Portugal we have 95 octane, 98 and 100 Octane from BP.

The 100 Octane realy makes a diference;)

No kidding. I am so tired of 91. If I am going to pay close to $4 per gallon then I want it to be for a good gas !!!

Is it me or does the A/F seem pig rich?

It is a bit on the rich side for safety and thermal management from the factory, just like most all turbo cars. Nothing too crazy though. Turbo Supras will get down in the low 10's at peak torque.

I consider 10.6 and under to be pig rich; and yes you are correct, most turbo cars from the factory are like that, like my evo was. But my main point of saying that, was not only putting mods that free up air flow significantly help the car gain more power, but just cleaning up that tune would yield a great amount of power. With exhaust, boost controller and tune, i think it could easily hit over 500whp on that very same mustang dyno.

THe octane in Japan is much better...Heck I am in Korea and I get 93 octane on the military base here...When I was in Japan I also got 93 octane on base from Shell but I usually just went off abse for the good stuff...there are places in Japan that serve pure 100...

Octane ratings in the States arent the same as they are abroad. IIRC, 96 over in Europe & Japan is equiv to our 92 here.

XS Engineering did a dyno recently on the US version of the GT-R.
The GT-R made 412.1 hp @ 6527 RPM and 388.7 lb-ft of torque at all wheels in fourth gear. Pretty good number.

Hello, congrats to all that have their Cars, or have them on order. I am still working on ordering mine, I am #29 on the dealership waiting list and now I am told it will most likely have to be the 2010 model " Oh Canada " I think we are get like 150 - 2009s for the whole country !

Back to the Q, does any one know the MPG or KMPL rating on the car if using Sunoco Ultra-94 Hi-octane ? thanks

94 Octane is not common in the United States. If I remember correctly, I believe the mpg is around 17-22

around here 100 octane isn't much more than 93 anymore. I am thinking of running it full-time in all my performance cars. It's $6/gallon now as opposed to $4/gallon for 93.

damn I cant believe how $$ gas is now!! wow...
its still less than $4.00 here for 93

Not saying you should go in this direction, but...

water / methanol injection kits spray a fine mist of 30 / 70% just prior to the manifold. This effectively does two (> 2) really good things in turbo-charged engines:
(1) reduces intake temps by > 40 F
(2) increases octane rating by > 8 octane units

These two parameters taken together have many benefits. The temperature here in Phoenix yesterday was 106 F.....so obvious benefits there for intake temperature.

I use 91 octane pump gas with a small water / methanol tank and pump in my trunk. The octane rating is effectively 100 with the water / methanol injection. It is also safe. I 'can' run 28 lbs of boost without thinking about when my engine will grenade.

Just a thought if you want to avoid the extra $$ for race gas.

Disclaimer: This is not for all applications and is not necessarily needed under all conditions, it just allows you to run high boost with little risk of pre-detonation, ignition issues for a very reasonable price.

I am all for 100 octane, I just cant beleve how much gas is now...
Its just shocking!

True but gotta remember its goin to be pig rich with that extra fuel so if you make a meth. specific map you can see even bigger gains.
