Hey guys,

Jus a lil bit of curiousity. I know that the GTR has a dual transmission that is automatic and also manual (using the shift peddels on the steering wheel) but do any of you guys know if they are gunna have a fully manual GTR???:confused::confused:

The new GTR does not have duel transmissions, rather it's duel "clutch" automatic type transmission that has manual mode built in. The technology is not new, Audi's DSG uses similar technology. Anyways, no, there will be no manual transmission for the new GT-R. More and more performance cars are built without a manual transmission.

Actually, the transmission IS a manual transmission, with dual clutches (one for even gears, one for odd to improve rev matching on downshifts) that are servo operated. There is NO torque converter, valve body, etc...it is a true "manual" type meshed gear transmission but doesn't have a conventional shifter ;)

Yes, it has clutches and gears, but it is still an automatic "type" transmission which the transmission can control by the computer, and the driver doesn't need to shift all the time (in almost all mode except when you select the manual mode). In a sense of a true manual transmission, the transmission must contain the following items, clutch, clutch pedal, and a shifter. Even though the GT-R's transmission can rev matching on downshifts (many cars can do this now, even my old G35 can do it :p), can you make the car going sideway by pop a clutch? Nope, b/c you don't have a clutch pedal. Can GTR jump the gear from 4th gear direct into 2nd gear? Nope, because the computer has to go to 3rd gear and then 2nd gear. In a true manual transmission, driver controls every aspects of gears, but not in GTR's case. Not saying that GTR's transmission is not good (in fact, it's a great technology, and can shift pretty much as fast as normal driver), but I will never consider it as a true manual transmission. BTW, it does have a shifter;)

ohhh... Thanx for the enlightenment on the dual "clutch" transmission... Its a shame though... I always felt like the best way to feel a car is with a good old manual transmission with shifter and clutch peddle... ahh ohh welll... hail new technology.... :P

I am not making an opinion concerning if the GT-R's transmission is better and/or a substitute for a hydraulic clutch and linked shifter set up, I'm only talking about the internal configuration.

This is why I called it an 'automated manual' since I feel that is more relevant. Most people generalize automatic transmissions all using hydraulic pressure with a convertor/valve body/etc, and manual transmissions only containing all meshed and sliding gears with the fluid only being used to lubricate and cool. It is a generalized 'manual' transmission, but yes it is automatically controlled (automated) :)

Hi, can anyone provide a little more details on the ATTESA ET-S (AWD) in regards to the Torque Dist. / Trac/yaw_Base : It indicates :

Up to 100% Rear and Up to 50% Front :

Does this mean a true AWD ? where there is a percentage of torque at all times, at all speeds, in all gears,,, >>> going to all wheels ?

` or is this a similar trans. as my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder that has a AUTO set 4WD and uses only rear wheel drive 100% of the time, unless the road conditions call for some of the torque up to the front wheels ? Never had a true AWD car, it the GT-R that car. Thanks.
