How does the whole GT-R stock plan work?
Does each dealership get a certain amount of GT-R's or do the HIGH SELLING dealerships only get the cars?
I was wondering because I "heard" that there was only going to be 1500 shipped to the U.S. this year....
If that is the case man wtf ?!

Yes, Nissan announced earlier this year that their initial North America GT-R launch will only have 1500 units. So, not every Nissan dealerships will be getting one. Only certain dealerships that has trained technicians might be able to get one. That's why there is a huge markup price on them from dealerships because the New GT-R is new, limited, and rare.

Dealerships who sell the GT-R have to have certain equipment, a Nissan factory trained GT-R technician, and pay a fee to be able to sell the GT-R (among other things.) Apparently, more dealerships than expected applied for this privilege, therefore it is taking Nissan longer than expected to sort things out with their USA dealerships.

Hey guys thanks for the responses BUT I was at the Houston Auto Show today and asked the announcer a question directly related to this.
He said that they will be shipping over 2500 units NOT 1500....Don't know if that is true or not.
He said that the dealerships with the BEST ratings will get these GT-R's so that means best customer service, best repair service, best salesman service, etc.
So that is what will reflect which dealerships get these cars.

Interesting! Did you catch the announcers name and/or position within the company by chance?

I can vouche that the dealership has to be GT-R certified (sales/service) and with all the training combined with the equipment, the certification bill is $25,000. With only 1 or 2 to each certified dealer, they HAVE to sell over sticker at least to cover that cost plus to make profit.

Why would you have to sell over sticker to cover that? I don't think that is a "fee" a customer should pay.
Honestly, I think that is just something the dealership has to bite on. It's not like your going to charge every person over cost every time a certification bill is put into play right?
A sticker price DOES NOT mean a dealership is not making any money in the first place...its not like sticker means wholesale/cost.

Okay,
The markup I have seen between invoice and sticker is about $7,000. That is the profit between what the dealer pays and what the what the sticker asks. Yes, there is probably dealer money from the manufacturer (i would say about 2k on this car) So, that means at sticker, you net profit about 9K. Most dealer allocations are 1 or 2 cars and possibly 3. If you sold 3 vehicles at sticker, you are talking a 18k net profit....hardly enough to even cover the cost of being certified to carry the car.

Hey guys.. my 1st post over here! I want one of these cars so badly, I probably will have to wait a couple of years to pick one up though. Can someone tell me when will these cars be hitting the showrooms? I know 09 is the model year so I figure it will be September maybe?

Trevor, I was told today as I ordered mine that the dealership has to pay $20,000 to Nissan Corp just to have the car and that this was on top of GT-R certification, tools, training, etc. Is that true?

Yes, that is all true.

Correct. Initial fee to the dealer was 25,000, but I have heard that it was lowered, but hadn't checked into how much it was lowered. 20,000 is probably the correct number.

We are a small Nissan dealer and have been allocated two GT-R's. It costs a Nissan dealer quite a bit more than $20K to be a certified GT-R dealer. There is special equiptment to purchase for the Service department and training cost, etc.

Yes, we were told the cost to get GT-R certified (along w/ equipment) is over $25,000+ and then it cost an additional $20,000 to each dealer just for the rights to sell GT-Rs.

That is incorrect., The cost to become certified is 25,000, but there is not an additional cost over and above that to sell them. If that were the case, the dealers (majority) that were allocated only 2, would have to have 25K minimum above sticker to pay for it and allow for a profit to even make it worth the time to sell them

Just talked to the guy at Serramonte Nissan, just south of SF. They want a 60k premium on top of the 70k MSRP. Yeah, that's a $130k GT-R... a little pricey for my tastes. I figure it's easier to buy one out of California - the prices are going to be ridiculous anywhere in the state.
