I just wondering how much margin there will be for dealers on the GTR and what they will try to charge over that price just because they can?
That they will try would be enough to make me back out of a purchase.
I am going to the local dealer and try to put in a deposit but am not sure if I can set up a deal yet or not.
What would you be willing to pay, if any, over MSRP?

Being a limited production car, I am sure many dealership are going to jack up at least another $2000 and if you really want the car, that's a price you have to work with. It will be nice if they sell one in MSRP.

My local dealer is taking a list of names and then will take "bids" on the car. He's taking no deposits and essentially no list other than giving you the option to bid. I'm guessing people will be going 25K over MSRP.

Yellow-
I'm not sure what your local is but I would think that the amount that a dealer could yield over MSRP would be region specific. I remember that the Miata when first released was bringing almost 100% (18K+) over retail in the soCal market while at the same time in the midst of winter in Ohio they were dealing straight up.
An economy market will always follow it's own rule but I personally have a very hard time with dealers padding retail.
If a dealer was even to suggest a 25K pad, well, that dealer would never see me again.
My 2 cents...

Call around 2 days ago to dealerships all over California to see what mark up would range.
Most about 20k, a few 30-35k, and one 50k!
No Freakn' way!

I live in the NY metro area, so I'm sure like SoCal, the dealers are going to hurt you. To that end, I spoke to a Chevy dealer about the upcoming ZR1, and he told me for a 5000 dollar deposit and 50K over MSRP I can have one. Nice, huh. I've called several local Nissan dealers and most don't even want a list yet, so I'll be interested to see how some of you other guys do.

Dear Group,
I have been number one on the GT-R list from my dealer for more than 18 months. I have money down, pre-negotiated the over mark on msrp, and am currently trying to fill a "pre-order" for my car. What I know so far, is that a current nissan dealer must pay nissan to become a GT-R dealer ($25,000-$40,000) depending on size and equipment of the dealer and service facility.
They have to send a master technician, service advisor, and sales manager for GT-R specific training as part of the application to become a GT-R Dealer.
My dealer has been very open with all pertinent information with me inorder to fast-track my request. I was fortunate enough to know that this car was coming to the USA prior to these dealers. I strategically purchased all of my recent vehicles, and luckily all of my past vehicle purchases have been from this group.
If anyone's curious, I can probably help.
PS. I am ordering a Black "Black Edition". I will be thoroughly be "lightening" the car by way of interior removals, seats, foam, isulation, etc. and carbon fiber body panels as they become available out of Japan.

i'm not sure how much over i would pay, but i guess if i had the cash at the moment to buy i one probably $2500 to $3500 over sticker, but since this first run of GTR's is limited i think i can wait until all the hub-bub quiets down and they start producing more of these cars later. plus when the better versions start coming out like the V-Spec and the Evolution i'm sure base GTR's will go down in price and also be readily available in 2 years time.

Factory margin is only 10%, cost to dealer to become GT-R distributor is approximately $35,000 each dealer who signs up will get no more than 2 units during the first model year. Basically, if the dealer sells both cars at sticker, they would lose $ 11,000 per car. So the actual cost to a dealer for two vehicles will be $ 80,050. each, + 10% profit. cars will sell for a minimum of $ $ 88,000 + tax tag and title in order to be a profitable proposition for the dealer in the first model year.
