View Full Version : What do I need to inspect before buying a Recond GTR
Hello KL GTR owners. Im RAF from KL. I just sold off my 645ci recently and planning to get a GTR. I've been surveying here and there in KL looking for the best car available in the market. I don't really mind which specs though (normal/black/premium spec).
But i do need an advice from a true GTR owner in KL. What should i inspect or take a close look at on the car before buying? Some dealer said the chassis (they said the higher the better?), the mileage and exterior/interior of course.
Thanks in advance.

Not too sure what you meant by higher the chasis but as with any used car... do inspect the chasis and body to make sure the lines are straight. Different body color will suggest the car has met with accident.
Interior such as steering, seat bolsters, knobs and buttons will give you a hint of the mileage.
Take a look at the engine bay for leaks and best you can take the car for a spin (if not while stationary) while paying attention to the response of the gearbox from gear to gear.
You may also want to turn the steering from left to right to check freeplay.
good luck

Hi Raf,
Find a car that you like, get the chasis number and mileage, some pros here can give you good advise on how good roughly the car is :)
Saw a import brand new in mofaz though.
Best luck!
Midship: Dealer said the higher chasis the better cos it represent car's production number. Hence, the higher chasis/production number, the better cos its newer (thats what they said). Most R35 for sale in the market at the moment their chasis number are 1000-2000K. I saw only one R35 with the chasis number 44**K.
Tony: I saw this gunmetal R35. Super hot! Chasis number 44**K. Mileage 20K, unregistered. Front tyres year 09, back tyres year 08. I inspect exterior all ok (well looks like it), interior clean and no scratch. I managed to test drive also and the car felt good. But disappointed a lil bit cos can't really drive fast moderately due to KL's busy road condition haha. Brand new R35 will cost a bomb! :(

Hi Raf,
I reckon the chasis 4xxx should be a good find. I bought mine with 3xxx import new and had so far about 15000 km on it, touch wood, everything perfect. Even been to track for a couple of fast laps without much problem.
However, got the transmission ecru program upgraded to newer version which suppose to prolong the life span by having looser tolerance of all the clutch plates.
Is good to have it done once you got our car. Plenty of shops now in KL who can carry out that part.
If sure enough, why bring the car to those shops in sun way area to get it check before buying, can always pay a couple of hundred bucks to the dealer first to allow us to do so. PM me if you need some shops' name. Cheers

How much does it cost to upgrade to the newer ecu program? Just to make sure i didnt pay more that the usual market price. Yeah sure will PM you for contacts of the shop.
Im used to smooth driving with my 645Ci, hence im not sure whats normal and whats not normal with the R35.
So, is it normal that R35 will jerk a lil bit when you begin to accelerate?
Nway i remembered when test drive the car, the car kinda jerk when i put the gear to Reverse. Is it normal? I think the rest was fine, not very jerky.
Okay ive move it here. Peace Tony. Hello Norman :)
I just had the car inspected using Consult 3. Kenneth's people came all the way from Sunway to help me inspect the car. Result all good so far. Only minor fault code recorded, nothing major.
I managed to test drive also. Apart from the rattling sound, the car feels great. Whats with that rattling sound? Is it normal guys?
Anyhow deposit paid, now settling the final payment. So the car should arrive end of this week or early next week.

Hello RF10,
ST Kenneth is in our club Top list^^
follow above + check the tyre/brake disc/sus rubber for ex owners driving style. then goes the body panel~bumper to body panel's gaps. then the full chasis check. and use your friends Cobb AP check for engine fault code, no need the consult-3 la~^^
Upgrade the trans map from 04 to 07 (higher launch rpm)or 09 is free if you are our member^^ Yes! you are!
Chasis number for JDM(Japan model) before 5000 is before June2008, that's first badge. second badge up to 10000, third is after 10000. You won't regret get a second badge GTR, that's a huge improvement! third... not so much but cost you TOO much!
We have a member Aziz that's second edition, that is totally different when you drive on it! you have the confident to drive up to 300km with damn stable condition act like BMW sus, all US model is same as JDM 2nd edition or even 3rd starts from 2010...
*3rd is not improve much and that's an easy upgrade from aftermarket parts.
let the use car dealer keep thier old GTR^^, if you haven't pay any deposite, hope you get the better one.

Good Luck!
At that time of looking the GTR, 'this' particular car has the highest chasis. Ive look around all over KL to find the perfect one and i believe this is close to perfect.
It matches my preference GTR colour. I love Gun Metallic on a GTR. Looks Hot
Test drive also ok. Not gonna mention the rattling sound again :p
Price was very reasonable too. Raya Promotion price it seems haha.
And i cant afford to wait for another 2-3 months to import a brand new GTR. Cos im getting married in October :D
So yes, I've paid the deposit Norman :)
btw, premium is good cause the Boss sound system la~

I saw one Gun Metallic Premium Spec but the chasis number was low laa. 1K+ only haha.
You sure 10K extra? When i surveyed its 20-30K extra for Premium Spec.
Nway i kinda like the lil bit of Red Leather on the Black edition. Like my old BMW 645Ci. Red Leather seats is freaking awesome :D

Hello,
I'm looking to buy a GTR and i've just done some quick reading here and it's been helpful.
Still deciding as to whether to get a recon or a new one. Main concern is the condition of the tranny. Would plugging in the laptop and doing a check give a good indication of the entire car?
Furthermore, anyone can point me in the direction of a dealer who has new premium spec for sale? So far been quite busy, and only been searching online and coming up with mainly 2008 models.
Thanks.

Hi, tranny is not a problem now. This year Nissan finally sell the tranny parts instead a whole new tranny. And thats tons aftermarket tranny parts.
If you can find a 08 with chasis no. Last four digit 5000+ that will be nice.
You no need the laptop consult3 for checking the car. Most of the GTR owner have Cobb AP will do.
If need any helps just pm me. ;)
