I will be running in the "Texas Mile" standing start one mile top speed trial at Goliad, Texas 26-28 March. Car # 71. Mine is the only stock GT-R entered. There are two others running in modified classes. Tanner Foust and the Speed Channel will be covering the event again--I got an e-mail asking for people with the faster cars to allow Tanner to drive them at the event. I declined.

Ted -- when are you heading for Goliad?

I'll be leaving Friday morning, about 10am with the intention of getting there for sign-in and tech inspection Fri afternoon. Staying Fri and Sat night at Holiday Inn Express in Victoria. Will run on Sat and Sunay morning, and leave Goliad in time to get back to Cypress by 4pm, to pick up my dogs from the kennel.

I have a stock GTR and ran at two Florida Mile events. Atotal of 6 runs. Best was 171 MPH. Good luck at the Texas Mile.

Thanks--this gives me a benchmark. I was sure that the advertised 192 couldn't be reached in a standing mile. The altitude and temps should be about the same as Florida, so I'll look for 170, as well. I think Henessey has his modified car, there, again; and he crossed 200mph in his first time out, a year ago.

Good luck 2 things you might hant to think about.
1. fold in your mirrors
2.39 or 40 psi in your tires.

Thanks for the tips. Any other driving tips? I was assuming stab and steer in R-R-R and auto-shift. How stable is the car above 150? How about your braking technique? I run up to about 150 by the end of the straight at Texas World Speedway. The straight is banked and then goes into a flat entry to the infield road course. I find that the car is a little more stable in the transition if I lift, and brake after a slight pause. The brakes are fantastic and I wasn't expecting any difficulty slowing down with a half-mile to go after the traps.

You have nothing to fear. At 171 mph the car was rock solid. Hell, when slowing down from my first run, put the windows down (thought car was going 80) at 138 mph, damn near blew out the rear window.

Best run was 167.2 MPH with a 15 MPH sidewind. When I left, it was the fastest street stock run of any car. A highly modified GT-R from Boulder Colorado did 206 MPH. A few cars were running over 200MPH, but they were all heavily modified. My runs didn't vary by more than 1MPH, so I'm convinced I hit the max that could be done on the day.

Some info: Taking foot off brake and flooring throttle gave fastest time. Doing the brake side-step while holding down the throttle always resulted in a bog off the line and was 1 MPH slower. A highly modified tuner GT-R from Austin had the same experience. If you are in R-R-R, just stepping on the throttle is fastest. If you are not worried about your warranty, you'll need to go to VDC off to avoid a bog off the line with brake sidestep. Everyone used auto shift. The computer does a good job of balancing torque peak and RPM. The 1/2 mile braking after the top speed run was more than sufficient. Could have done it in a 1/4 mile. Car is rock solid at speed. Achieved zero steering input during the runs, so as to avoid any scrubbing off of speed. Just get the car lined up straight at the beginning. Big surge at the 1-2 shift point. Turbos were fully spooled up and car really jumped at the start of 2nd gear.

I had a helmet cam going during the last two runs.
