Inspired by what the club member have DIY'ed so far and since I have the luxury of free time today, I decided to start my own DIY project today - Dynamatting back of the car to lower the sound coming from decat exhaust system.

I went and bought 15 pieces of Dynamat. Called my friend who owned a car audio shop. Ask for his help. Spent 3 hours plus installing the matt with the help of 2 of my friend's technicians.

End result - Money well spent and satisfaction. Cabin noise coming from exhaust is much quieter. I hardly hear the rattle when I start the engine. I probably did not save any money doing it myself but it was fun :)

Looks good. How much did it set you back?

I have to try this too! I'm getting alot of rattle from the back when going over speed humps! :(

Apparently, Norman says its the LSD... i say its the rubbish Japanese PDI that was done on our cars! :(

15 pieces of Dynamat cost me RM1300. A few things:

1. That work out to be ~RM86 a piece. I was told you can get get it cheaper but I was rushing and don't want to waste time looking.
2. You probably don't need 15 pieces. 13 is enough.
3. I actually Dynamat my backseat, trunk and front door. And since I have extra, I also dynamat the side panel of backseat which probably you don't need to do that. Even the front door is overdoing it, IMO.

Other than the cost of the mat, I gave some tips to the technicians who helped me.

It surely will improve the sound proofing of your car. WRT to rattle, could it be coming from suspension. Did you ever remove your axle before? Suspension? When I changed my suspension to COBB sleeves I had similar problem. The suspension seat causing a lot of rattle and knocking noise. Fixed that and all the rattle gone.

Haha, DIY is like touch your lover by your own hands... Great job.;)

Bro Azri, I work at Nissan PDI before :o
GTR's common rear rattle soundS cause by 1.Transmission (nature) 2.LSD(clutch and joints) 3.Sus seat 4. Swaybar linkage to sus (Shah's car) 5. Bush rubbers...it makes all "slightly" different "sounds". If can't cure it, "cover" it is a good idea. you should consider using Dynamat too.:)

I PDI my car few months ago too, but without Dynamat....

Right, OEM sus rattle..., your Cobb sleeve as after market sus products, they reduce sound and much better handling and solid feels. just have "take care" the pillow ball upper mounts.

em, you have Bose system too^^
