can we also define the new car by their VIN number onwards? Thanks
Hi Tony,
Oh yes! we hard to know when the production date :)
For JDM (Japan, not sure for other country)~
Dec 2007~ MY07 chasis number R35 000001~
June 2008~ MY08 chasis number R35 005520~
Dec 2008~ (485hp) MY09 C/N R35 010004~

BTW, most or all the "Third country" still selling MY07.:( need to wait for a while for MY08 onward, cause there still have lots MY07ssS in the market waiting for buyers.
or import the new model by direct order, guess pay 100k more than "old stock" ;)

Guys,
I heard from a jap fern before that the easiest way for you to find out anu JDM manufacturing year would be looking at the seat belt manufacturing date, which is always stated on the white colour tag, on the belt itself usually right at the bottom end. Found mine to be 2008 though...anyone can comment on this?

It is mandatory for cars (all over the world) to install safety belts that are the same as the vehicle's year of manufacture.

aaahhh...perhaps now we have a more cetain way of telling the year of manufactured of a vehicle ;)

Right, but mid 2008 launch 2nd edition with quite important "minor" change. that starts from no.XXX5001+

I found 1 unit with the chassis 5068, and i was confused with what you posted:
June 2008~ MY08 chasis number R35 005520~
If the second batch starts with 5001>, the i'll just go ahead with that unit.
Thx!!!

Are these numbers related to the chassis or the engine numbers? The reason why I ask is that I found one which was registered in the UK in July 2009...from the VIN the chassis code is 11XX but the engine code is 12,4XX
The Nissan dealer is pretty sure that this is a 2009 model but the chassis code does not corroborate this.
Any ideas / comments?

JDM= Japan Model
UK first badge= JDM third badge
And that's UK Chasis Code. ;)

Hi Norman,
Thanks for your reply. So the vehicle which I saw was produced after December 2008?
Just want to be 100% clear. I would have thought that the vehicle ID number would have been sequential globally, but only the designated market code changing on the VIN.
I'm pretty new to Nissan and their system so I will rely on your experience to guide me.
Cheers
Garry

Hi all,
I've been following the various GTR-35 threads for quite some time and am definitely intrigued and interested in getting this car. However, the topic of chassis number still clouds my mind at times.
While many have advised that it's better to get the 2nd batch with chassis numbers 5xxx and above, but after surveying, there's still a majority of the units with the 4xxxx chassis no.
One of the dealers actually have a 09 model, but it's chassis no. is 03XX. When I ask them how come the number is reverted back to 3 digits, they told me that 09 models have a nice chassis code.
They said the old chassis sequence was R35 000001~ ... but the new 09 models chassis sequence starts with R35 100001~ hence the last 4 digits are reverted to 03XX for that model.
How far is this true?
Would really appreciate if anyone can shed some light on this.
Thanks in advance.

I think the chassis numbers mentioned earlier in the thread relate to JDM versions of the GT-R which we usually see here in Malaysia.
Mine is a UK spec GT-R and those are all 2009 upwards so the chassis numbers are different.
I read somewhere (cannot remember where) that to tell the manufacturing year you can either get the full VIN details or you can check the MY (manufactured year) tag on the bottom of the seat belt where it fixes into the floor. Is it industry standard that the seat belt has to be marked with the same MY as the car.
Good luck with your purchase. If you need any other buying advice I'm sure that some of the other members will be happy to join you to take a look at some of the GT-R's which are currently for sale.

Thanks for your feedback, Garry.
I have also thought that the car I saw was a UK spec unit, but the dealer said it was a Japan spec model. So, to further investigate, I asked him to start up the car, and I found that the multi-functional display does indeed show all Japanese words (from what I know, UK spec will have English words).
But anyway, thanks for the tip for checking the MY via the seatbelt. I'd say that's a very ingenious, simple & effective way of finding out the manufacturing year of the car.

Yes, the UK spec is all English on the multi-function display.

Hi Norman,
Thanks a lot for offering your help. I would certainly PM you when I want to see the car again. I could really use your expertise in assisting me with my survey and purchase later on :)
It does sound strange to me as well when I am told of that by the dealer. And mind you, it was from one of the top few reputable dealers in town.
Right now, I'm continuing my survey with other dealers as I'm in no rush to get the car so soon. Rather do enough of homework and play safe.
