If anyone in the California area has any information on how I can get on a list or pre order a new GTR please PM me!

I've contacted 8 of the dozen or so Nissan dealers within the greater Seattle area, regarding getting in line for GTR release. Most replied back saying they have from 0-4 people in line, will take anywhere from $1500 to $5000 minimum deposit, and mark-up from $70k MSRP as little as possible... to one over $10,000.

So it appears still highly inconsistent at this point, as none knew exactly how many their allotment would be, and what protocol was regarding mark-up. I currently plan to get listed at one that has zero or one in line, but will withdraw at the end if mark-up approaches 10% or more.

Chances are the vehicle will approach $90k for 2008 sale prices w/ taxes, fees, etc... which to me pushes the price into the Porsche & other high-end sportscars niche that Nissan was trying to slay with this vehicle! While I understand the supply & demand side for first-release exclusivity rights, personally I’m not one who will fall into that trap.

I'd suggest just searching around at various dealerships, and primarily ones that aren't in large cities with big demand for these cars. We have the first two on order from a large dealer in the mid-west at either sticker or $1k over, so it can be done. Not all dealers mark the cars up insanely, however most do :)

How do you know they won't change their tune once they realize they can mark your two on order up, and easily sell them? Have you signed a contract?

I think it's only a matter of time before even those dealerships in bumfcksville catch on to the hype and find overpaying suitors. In fact... the most remote dealer I contacted here, up in the Olympic peninsula, said they had 4 deposits already... whereas a few nearest to me had none or one. Of course, I have no rapport with Nissan; maybe you do.

Yea, we have it signed in writing with our deposits already paid. I understand where you are coming from though!

What kind of special order items are possible?

There are a few minor items that will be optional, but the main package is the 'Premium' package that includes seat heaters, side airbags, and upgraded BOSE speakers. Also, two of the colors are special order and more expensive. However nothing is confirmed for the USDM cars, so we will see!

I ordered mine today. For the record, the only color that costs more is the "Super Silver" and that is an additional $3,000.

Trevor, I got mine at Gwinnett Place Nissan just north of Atlanta. They have a few left as far as I know but I assume they'll be sold out this week!

If there is a dealer out there willing to sell to me at $5,000 or less over MSRP, I'm interested in purchasing remotely from the Seattle area. The dozen+ area dealers up here are quoting $10k - $65k over MSRP... which isn't just insulting to me the buyer, it's now garnered Nissan North America's attention & is under corporate investigation!

Since I've now heard personal stories of 3 GTRs in the midwest and southeast selling at $1,000-$5,000 over MSRP, I know that ethical dealers are out there... willing & able to put these in the true enthusiasts hands.

Thanks,
Gary

I don't really believe that charging over MSRP should be classified as "Unethical" The best price and the best deal is the one that both the buyer and the seller agree on. In the case of Ford GT's upon their debut, it was upwards of 100K over sticker. That didn't make it unethical just because the price wasn't what somebody thought it should be. Again, MSRP stands for the manufacturer's suggested retail price, not a set in stone price. If Nissan does want to put a cap on the amount being charged, that is their decision. If 20K over is Market Value, then that is far from being unethical. I mean no offense to anyone with my thoughts.

super silver is a 3000 dollar option and the others are no charge.

You can have the choice of dark rays wheels with bridgestone tires or polished rays wheels with dunlop tires.( this would be the cold weather package ) no charge for this, they just change the tires from summer tires to all season tries

I stand corrected; "moral/immoral" would have been the better defining terminology.

That is still poor wording in my opinion. Again, the best deal is the one both the buying and selling party agree on. How can you say that charging above SUGGESTED retail is immoral? If that is what the market is doing, then that is how it is. Just because it isn't how you want it to be, doesn't make it wrong or immoral. Again, I mean no offence to anyone with my personal opinion.

I agree w/ Trevor. Trust me, I don't want to pay any more than I have to but business is business. If people are willing to pay X above MSRP and are happy to do it, then dealers will charge X dollars above MSRP. This is just capitalism, love it or hate it. If the the demand fades, they'll adjust prices accordingly.
