Last Sat (May 2) I attended the first "Supercar Saturday" meet in Glenview, IL. It is held at the site of the old Glenview Naval Air Station, where a redevelopment includes a very picturesque townsquare with surrounding shops and restaurants. The event is planned for the first Sat of every month from May through Oct (with any rain-outs rescheduled for the 2nd Sat).
It drew well over 50 cars, including Lambos, Ferraris, Maseratis, Porsches, Audi R8, BMWs, Bentley, Ford GT, Vipers, Vettes, and others --- including 2 GT-R R35's (my Gun Metallic and gashero's sweet Super Silver). It was good to meet you in person Wayne.
I was thinking that one of the next upcoming Supercar Saturdays (perhaps June 6 and/or July 4) would be a good opportunity to gather many of the Chicago area GT-R's. We could also collect the Naperville and nearby area folks in advance, for a joint cruise up to Glenview. I'll be happy to help coordinate it if you let me know who's interested.
Details and pre-registration are available at www.SupercarSaturdays.com. The event is 9 to 11 am, with arrival/parking between 8 and 8:45 am. They hold "premium" parking space (around the town square) for select pre-registered cars until 8:45. The remainder park along the main street centered on the square. But cars are parked in the order they arrive, so if we want a Godzilla "paddock" we need to arrive as a group.
The first event was nicely organized and executed, in a pleasant setting, with lots of fine cars and friendly owners.
BTW, on May 2, after the first event, a bunch of the Lambo and Ferrari folk and I had lunch there and then cruised down to the Autobahn Country Club racetrack in Joliet, where the second leg of the One Lap of America was being contested that afternoon. I got to meet and speak with the drivers of the 2 GT-R's entered in the race. Great guys with great cars. The Freedom GT-R had an off day (with the car going into "Limp Mode" at one point). But the Cannonball GT-R had a great day. It finished first overall (and set a track record) for the wet skidpad in Indy in the morning; then it finished 2nd overall (to a GT2) in the afternoon for the time trials at Autobahn. It finished the day in first overall. The races continue for a week, with the entrants having to drive their race cars overnight to each subsequent track event. You can get updates at CannonballGTR.com. I checked it this morning and the GT-R was sitting in 2nd overall behind the GT2.
