I am curious to hear from any R35 GT-R owners in Ontario....Who did you deal with? What was your experience like?..Purchase price?...Any attempts to force you in to purchasing options/packages that greatly increase the price above MSRP? And how about the very significant issue of warranty and launch control...were you told not to use launch control?..Does this in fact void the transmission warranty? Did you have to sign anything in this regard? What did your dealership say about performance...is the Nissan claim of 0-60 in 3.5 seconds with/without launch control?..I assume all the times at well under 3.5 seconds reported by various publications are with the launch control on...this to me greatly diminished the vehicles appeal...effectively, you can only outperform a porsche if you destroy the vehicle and void the warranty!!! I thought Nissans sole purpose in designing and manufacturing this car was just that...to be well below the porsche in price, yet post better numbers!.."anyone, anywhere, anytime"????

1 "anyone"..means you could have afforded the porsche anyway, because you need to have the resourses to buy a new tranny at $20,000 possibly after every "launch"..an expensive 3.1 seconds!

2 "anywhere"..except North America, where warranty is declined if you drive the vehicle in the manner for which you purchased it
for in the first place!

3 "anytime"....actually "never" if all reports are true!!

I love this car..Nissan however has done a terrible job of communicating with us, the consumer about their product. In years of speaking to dealers, sales personal and reps, as well as Nissan Canada, I have yet to find ONE PERSON who can look me in the eye and answer the most basic and fundemantal questions about this car. This problem began at inception..no firm release date, delays and rumours about pricing, dealership mark ups, dealer designation, dealer allocation, and now these issues!! Has the intended "flagship" sunk?

I would love to share our experiences, or in my case, nightmares, with you!

Thanks for replying!

Which dealer did you buy the GTR from? Any issues with the car yet?

We were dealing with a couple when shopping around almost a year ago. Info was lacking big-time. The PR firm hired for the auto show knew less than we did about the GTR which was a bad sign. To get any info and test-drives one had to travel to the US which was better organized as a whole. We attend and sponsor several Nissan Specific events in the USA and were fortunate to have an in depth drive and info on the GTR. We also had a chance to view the GTR in our shop beginning of the Summer. This media vehicle has blown the tranny last we heard after 50 + launches logged.

The price hikes from the dealers did not help either! As stated previously those who wait should be able to get the GTR at MSRP or lower due to the economy. Within 3 years the price will drop on used versions nicely once the cost of ownership is realized and warranties expire.

As for launch control I wold avoid using it for the obvious reasons. Nissan will no longer be offering this feature in 2010 as mentioned by several sources.

Bottom line is the GTR is alot of car for under 100 G's CDN. Repair bills will not be cheap and those who can afford this level of car should be able to afford the wear and tear items and expensive aftermarket parts - blown trannies being the exception.

As for the Porsche crowd their bills will be high as well - especially initial purchase which is alot higher than the GTR. Alot of the performance and OE Replacement parts though are cheaper than the GTR. We have seen this as we own a highly modifed 996 Turbo along with our other Nissan shop cars.

Great car for the money with very poor communication networks in Canada - more of the same due to our small market.

No probs!

We backed out from a couple US dealers we talked with as they were saying one thing and last minute increasing prices. The Canadian dealer we tried talking to almost a year before release was Alta - I'll leave it at that! We have a source locally who offered up a GTR at MSRP (red) 1 month ago as the purchaser walked away last minute. I think the dealer likely tried the screw tactic of last minute mark-up there as well. Glad we waited as the economy is turning everything into a buyers market.

We plan on adding the GTR to our stable of Nissan's and Porsche's in the near future when the largest depreciation hits (warranties expire).

We still have plenty of parts in development planned for the GTR in the meantime :) If you have your GTR we can always buzz you when we cruise up to Cayuga for test and tune etc. Plenty of High Hp Nissan Z's and other rides cruising regularly.

With the current exchange rate buyers up North should be better off purchasing locally for the time being. Unless they are having trouble getting their hands on one then the US is the place to go. When first released locally they were charging upwards of 130 G's CDN and now back to near MSRP. I wouldn't want to be that guy losing 30-40 G's within 2 months and a further few once it rolls off the lot :(

Just the way it is with a hot new product. Same happened here with the 350Z as people were paying 10-15 over MSRP to get their paws on the first samples.

We will be watching and waiting for the right time in the near future to add to the collection :)

I bought mine from a local Ottawa Auto Import company who picked it up from a BC dealership. Buyer out there dropped 10k but never showed up for the car. I got it at MSRP, no more, no less. I had to pay to have the car shipped across the country ($1,200) by train.

As for launch control, who cares. For 90k, this car is amazing. Speed, handling, design. It rocks. As for lack of info, anyone who wants one of these already knows more than any sales person can tell them. Let's be honest, we went out of our way to buy this beast because we've read every little detail about it in car mags and forums and so on.

I love my car. too bad it's down for the winter. But come March, woo hoo.

I bought mine form a broker out in Toronto for 92,000 (super Silver paint included). They knew some about the car but not much. This was expected. I was dealing initially with Morrey Nissan out in B.C. and they didn't know much either other than 4 grand for snow tires and 5400 for extra rims. They also wanted to charge about 10-15 grand over M.S.R.P.

I am also frustrated with the lack of information on the car and the inability to use launch control and drive the car the way it was portrayed when I purchased it.

I was wondering if any of you who own one will be driving it in the snow. If you care to discuss it, why and why not?

Yes, I will be driving it in the snow.

Why?

I didnt pay this much money for a car to drive 6mths a year only

It has AWD (not that I am absolving myself of any responsibility)

I have winter tires

I'm glad to hear that. I was having a hard time with people telling me that I'n nuts to drive it in the winter.

Thanks for the reply.

Enjoy your GTR. Totally awesome!!!

I definitely will not drive it in winter. I guess if it's your only car, that would be necessary, but otherwise, why subject this car to the harsh effects of winter (AWD or not). I mean really, what kind of fun would you get from driving this car in the winter anyway. There is no way I would find any joy in crawling along in slippery snow, when I know the real joy of this car is on the track or at least, pushing the limits of speed and agility on country road.

Just my 2 cents.

Cool to see another one in Ottawa. If you're not the person I know (you're not Claude right?) that means there's two in the region. UB, if you have some time this spring, I'd love to come chck out your car.

I'm not Claude. I'm Doug. I'll be spending a lot of time (and I mean excessive) up at Calabogie MotorSports Park.
