Hi Guys,

While talking to the dealer rep last Thursday , he did mention that the GPS doesn't work. However, whilst driving back from Abu Dhabi , I happened to pass by a Gun Metal Beauty that had the driver window open . I swear I saw the GPS working ? Can anyone help ?

P.S. If the owner is here , I was in the ML55 AMG ;)

Cheers,
Nabil

Dear V8 Club,

It does work but it needs to be the right place. becasue the GPS only works in USA.

So the answer is no. See this is what confuses me, i mean the system connects via satellite. So all it needs is the maps correct ? Can't we upload the maps ? The dealer rep told me that the maps are stored on the hard drive and that it updates via satellite. I'm sure it can be configured to download the MiddleEast maps ?

I am having the same problem with a US model in Norway. GPS works, but it has only maps for USA on the harddisk. I am pretty sure that it doesn't update by satelite, but you have to get into the harrdisk and change maps and I am not sure if they are available yet or if the dealers have the equipment to do it. I have noticed though thst it looks like the new Audi Q5 comes with what looks like the same system with maps on a harddisk and it might be possible to go down that route. If anyone have any info please let me know. Also if anyone knows how to get the clock adjusted to cet, please tell.

I've just bought my GTR collecting this weekend from dealer in Dubai. He said they will have maps ready in March in time for the car going on general distribition. They will contact me to arrange free installation. Best check this info with your dealers to ensure you get the same service!

I took my car for first oiil change this week end and while sitting with the salesman he brought me up to date with a few things:
1. UAE spec GTR's are now on sale for AED425k. But they are not moving due to people not being allowed credit by the banks
2. UAE spec cars do not have satnav!
3. Nissan IT are apparently the ones trying to change maps for UAE VVIP models. No date given for completion
4. The name of the 'supposed' master technician for GTR's in Dubai is Mr Mutto. I called him to ask about ipod conversion and reverse camera fitting and he rudely told me that non-standard equipment would not be fitted by the local dealer.

Not much good news I'm afraid but if anyone else has information please share.

Thanks,

The Ipod conversion you can buy in Nissan Courtesy in USA!!! As I understood that as long the part are from nissan and there is steps to install it, they can do it. As for reverse camera, it is never included in the options of GTR so it means it is after market product. The Ipod conversion is available in USA and can be installed in the GTR.

Hey I just got back from Dubai a week ago and tried to use NAV. Def does not work. Updated GPS is non existant in Dubai until all of the construction is done. Thats what I have been explained over and over. All the streets that showed up in my GPS via Blackberry were numbered except for Sheikh Zayed and Al Makhtoum RD. Lol. Btw if any of you UAE guys own a Silver GTR and parked it at Dubai Marina last week during the boat show I have awesome pictures of it, sucks to see that there was a parking ticket on the windshield though.

I'd be happy to meet up just to chat with owners in UAE, to hear some of your thoughts about the car and perhaps plan a trip or track day. Anyway 5 or 6 of these beautiful machines parked somewhere like the Emirates Towers or the Marina would be an incredible sight!

Hi Memebers,

I beleive some of was on the Track day on 18 of April!!!

I believe some of you took the Beginner or Novice session. it is good that you DID!! The reason I went through the same proccess just learning the track and went up to Advance session. I was the behind the porsche who lost control and slammed on the wall!!! And we got it on video when he lost control but not when he slammed the wall. Thank god it was not serious!!!

Anyway we would like to meet soon before it gets hotter. A drive to Jebel hafeet in AL-AIn City would be excellent.

Here is a video of Mohammed bin Sulayem driving the GTR!!

Let you guys decide !!

Hi guys

it is kinda annoying to not get the Nav working so what i did is i talked to the dealer before i got the car last month , and they said if the gulf spec model has the nav working they will try to install it on any older models free of charge, i wouldnt trust them on that since they were trying to sell me the car.

being myself i couldnt wait for any longer and i contacted the company responsible for map making of the gtr in the united states and this was the reply:

Hello ,

Thank you for contacting Nissan. At this time we only distribute map discs for the continental United States and Canada. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi Guys

I took my car today to the car accesories shops in deirah near the Hayat.
what i understood from this techno wizard is :

According to him:

the maps are hard built on a memory chip someware in the system, they
cannot be deleted or replaced like any other software " Sounds fishy " so what this means is if you want it to work you will have to get a memory chip that has the middle east maps on it which is basicully what the dealer has been telling us.

the alternative way:

this has been tested on infities and it works , but there is a catch!
you buy a Garmin system from him and he DISMANTELS the system " your LCD Display " and hard wires the garmen to the aux contacts physicully
" the conecting interface you have to provide from the US " . wait there is more ... it is possible that when the car starts moving it will revert to another blank screen Ex: function screen. otherwise it works like a charm.

So as anoying as it might get for me i think we should sit tight and wait for Nissan to solve the problem for us even if we have to pay for it eventually.

Or do you guys think i should keep looking?

DXB_zillaz

can you post details of the company you have contacted. i'd like to contact them as well; perhaps if we all contact them they may start thinking about the problem and do something about it. even if it is buying a new 'hard drive', if it's possible.

A reply I've received from info-nissan@zenrin.com is given below. Not sure if it has any value; nor sure what it actually means :(.

Here is my question:

Is there any way to have this SatNav working in UAE? For example, is it possible to buy a new hard drive which can be loaded with different maps? Anything at all?

... and the answer:

Thank you for your enquiry about using your navigation system in the UAE.

NAVTEQ is the supplier of map data to many of the navigation systems on the market. The navigation system function you mention is a function of the navigation system software supplied with the hardware and is not a function of the map data supplied by NAVTEQ. Please note that each automobile manufacturer has made choices on the functionality that they wish the navigation system to support. We kindly recommend you to contact your dealer about this issue.

Should you require additional information, please send us your feedback by replying to this email. You may also contact us through our Customer Service Centre at the phone numbers provided below.

i have tried to call them . but the answer is always that the delar in your country is the one who will have to order the map from navteq company and they will install it by using the data loger with them

I talked with AA in Dubai and they are quoting $5,000 to load the UAE satnav. But they couldn't tell me if this price also includes expansion of the radio frequency to UAE channels and if it allows us to change the clock - right now mine is set on 12 hour version and when I change to 24 hour, it shows 4am as 16:00 and vice versa.I understand all of this is tied with the nav. Anyone else know what 's included in the $5k? Thanks,
