I would like to install a roll bar and four point harnesses for track use but leave in the standard seat belts for street us. Has anyone done this yet?

Is there a good roll bar out there that is made specifically for the 2009 GTR?

Thanks.

I haven't seen any roll bar for the GT-R in the market yet, not even on the Japanese market. However, the Nismo GT-R that enters Japan 24hours race does equipped with one, but it is probably custom designed. Check with your local racing shops, maybe they can design one for you.

When you say 'Roll Bar', are you referring to just a 2-point harness bar that mounts to each lower B-pillar area behind the head rests and allows use of the 4/5 point harness, or a roll 'cage' which is a 4+ point cage?

Either way, they will allow use of the factory seat belts as well as the 4 point harness.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm primarily looking for a bar on which to secure the harnesses. Also, I've read that if you use harnesses, you need roll protection because in an accident you have less ability to move in your seat if you are in a harness. I assume a two point harness bar would provide sufficient protection in a roll and a place to attach the harnesses. But is not not correct? Would I need a four point roll cage if I want to use harnesses safely?

Basically, I want to be more secure and more safe than simply using the stock seat belts (and of course no roll bar). But, I am just doing track days, not full racing. So, if I don't really need a full roll cage, I would just use a two point harness bar.

Your point about roll over protection with harnesses is true, however it can also be dangerous. If you use a 4+ point roll bar, you have to make sure the bar isn't close to your head. Otherwise, if you wreck without wearing a helmet, your head will smack the bar...

So, it's a trade off.

You need to have at least a 4 point bar if you are going to run harnesses and shells. As Jeremy pointed out it needs to be designed where the driver and passenger can safely operate the vehicle without helmets or you really won't be able to use it on the street without removing it. Look at the bars porsche makes for their 911 line as a guide. There are a lot of companies that make roll/harness bars for a lot of different cars. Autopower, BBI to name a few.
